Water Quality Monitoring
Water quality monitoring and reporting is done by the Monmouth County Environmental Health Program at 49 locations throughout the County, including Sandy Hook.
Statewide freshwater and beaches, including sampling at the Bayshore Waterfront Park in Port Monmouth and Leonardo, are monitored and reported out by the NJ Dept of Environmental Protection and can be found at NJ Beaches.
The only official lifeguarded swimming beaches located in town are located on Sandy Hook. These beaches include:
Beach C
Beach D
Beach E
Gunnison Beach
North Beach
There are also swimming areas located on the bay-side of Sandy Hook.
Updated alerts on Sandy Hook beach closings are posted here.
All other beach areas in town are not staffed with lifeguards and are not swimming beaches. These include Ideal Beach, Leonardo Beach, and Port Monmouth Beach.
