Middletown Township Announces 15 Percent Reduction of NJ Transit Parking Fees

Reduction is in Direct Response to NJ Transit Fare Increase

Middletown Train Station

On Monday, April 15th, Mayor Tony Perry announced a plan to counteract the recent decision by Governor Phil Murphy and the NJ Transit Board, which imposed a burdensome 15 percent increase in transit fares. In direct response to this decision, Mayor Perry and the Middletown Township Committee will introduce a 15 percent reduction in NJ Transit parking fees within Middletown, aiming to ease the financial strain on our commuters.

Mayor Perry and the Township Committee will introduce an ordinance at the Monday, April 22nd Township Committee Meeting with a public hearing to be held on Monday, May 6th. The fare reduction would take effect immediately and will be fully implemented prior to the fare increase by New Jersey Transit on July 1, 2024.

Mayor Tony Perry Celebrates Earth Day with Nut Swamp Kindergarteners

Mayor Perry reading to class

Mayor Tony Perry started his Friday morning on a positive note by reading to Michelle Michalski-Miles', Elizabeth Mullee's, and Erin Stripto's three kindergarten classes at Nut Swamp Elementary School! Mayor Perry was originally supposed to read there during Read Across America Week, but was unable to at the time.

With Earth Day being on Monday, Mayor Perry read the books Compost Stew: An A to Z Recipe for the Earth by Mary McKenna Siddals and The Pout-Pout Fish Cleans Up the Ocean by Deborah Diesen. After reading, Mayor Perry got a tour of the school garden that the kindergarteners help take care of.

Boil Water Advisory Issued for New Jersey American Water Customers in Portions of Middletown

As a result of a 6-inch water main being hit during a township sewer rehabilitation project along Bay Avenue between Miller Street and Valley Street in Highlands, New Jersey American Water (NJAW) has issued a boil water advisory for customers residing in the following areas:

  • Properties located east of the intersection of Washington Lane and Hartshorne Road in Middletown Township
  • Properties located north of Shrewsbury Way in Sea Bright
  • All of Highlands

The main repair was completed on Thursday, April 18th, and NJAW's water quality teams mobilized swiftly to collect the necessary samples into the early morning hours. It takes approximately 24 hours to get results. NJAW anticipates to have an update on the boil water advisory early Saturday, April 20th. Please continue to boil water until you are notified that the boil water advisory is lifted. NJAW will update impacted customers when the advisory has been lifted via the company's alerts notification system.
