Check Out the Progress of the
Middletown Recycling Center Upgrades!

Middletown Recycling Center Update

The Middletown Recycling Center (52 Kanes Lane) will be closed for renovations until Thursday, August 11th. While construction is taking place, limited items are being accepted at the recycling drop-off site at the Middletown Train Station (located in the parking lot off Middletown-Lincroft Road). Visit www.middletownnj.org/recyclingcenter to see what is and isn't being accepted.

As of Wednesday, July 13th, the contractor has
begun the demolition work necessary for the proposed improvements. New concrete curbs and sidewalks have been poured, and a new electrical conduit is being installed for the Styrofoam™ recycling machine, security cameras, and building. Visit www.middletownnj.org/rcupdates to view the progress.

Improvements to the Middletown Recycling Center will include increasing access and efficiency to the recycling drop-off bins, improving traffic circulation, allowing room for the expansion of recyclable commodities in the future, and ensuring ADA compliance to both the Middletown Recycling Center and Administrative Building.

How to Prevent Spotted Lanternflies from Spreading

Spotted Lanternflies Have Returned: Tips for How to Prevent the Spread

Now that summer is here, spotted lanternflies are back! The spotted lanternfly is a serious invasive pest that feeds on sap from over 70 different plant species. Spotted lanternflies can negatively impact our agriculture, economy, and everyday life through the honeydew they excrete, which eventually turns into mold.

According to the New Jersey Department of Agriculture (NJDA), Monmouth County is in the "spotted lanternfly quarantine zone". Beginning in July, many spotted lanternfly nymphs enter their final developmental stage before they reach adulthood when they can fly and lay eggs. In this stage, they become bright red and covered in black stripes and white spots. Adult spotted lanternflies also begin to appear in July.

The Middletown Health Department advises residents to kill and report them to the NJDA when spotted. The Middletown Health Department also encourages residents to utilize the NJDA's checklist for spotted lanternfly quarantine areas, in an effort to stop the spread.

New National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
Effective Saturday, 7/16

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
Beginning Saturday, July 16th, 988 will become the nationwide 3-digit dialing code for crisis and suicide prevention. It will replace the 1-800 number currently used by the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

When someone is experiencing a mental health crisis, they will be able to dial 988, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will be connected to a mental health professional. Once connected, an assessment will be conducted to determine if additional help is needed. If so, a response team will be dispatched.
