Route 36 Corridor Redevelopment Project

Route 36 Corridor Meetings

The Redevelopment Investigation Study for the Route 36 corridor was presented at three consecutive Special Planning Board Meetings on the following dates at 6:30 PM in the Courtroom at Town Hall (1 Kings Highway):

The goal of the meetings was to help the Planning Board determine whether the study area meets the statutory criteria to be designated as an area in need of redevelopment for non-condemnation purposes. The public was invited to watch the presentations and ask questions after.

As discussed at the public information session held in March, the Investigation Study breaks down the corridor into three different sections. Each meeting was primarily devoted to a specific section of the Route 36 corridor.

See the Public Notice for specific information about the boundaries of each section.

3/16/23 Public Information Session

Route 36 Corridor Redevelopment

On March 16th, Middletown Township and T&M Associates hosted a public information session about this project.

Mayor Tony Perry opened the meeting by addressing the packed room at VFW Post 2179 in Port Monmouth. Attendees included residents, business owners, and members of the Township Committee, Planning Board, and Zoning Board of Adjustment.

Mayor Perry expressed the Township’s desire to get input from property and business owners within the redevelopment investigation study area about what they envision the Route 36 corridor to look like. Township Administrator Tony Mercantante then gave an overarching view of what this project would entail and introduced Stan Slachetka who was representing T&M Associates and is handling the redevelopment investigation study. Community members were invited to ask questions throughout the presentation, as well as view the boards of the areas along the corridor that will be part of the project. If you would like to view the boards in person, please feel free to drop by the Planning Department on the first floor (middle floor) of Town Hall at 1 Kings Highway.

There will be future Planning Board Hearings and community meetings and anyone is welcome to attend. Additional hearing and meeting dates and information will be posted on this page, so please check back for updates. We also encourage community members to follow Middletown Township on its various social media platforms for notifications (Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube).
