Middletown Honors Cancer Survivors & Caregivers at Annual Relay for Life Event

The American Cancer Society hosted its annual Relay for Life of Middletown event on Saturday, June 8th at Middletown High School North. The Relay for Life event brings communities together to remember loved ones who lost their battle with cancer, honor survivors and raise money to help the American Cancer Society make a global impact on cancer awareness and prevention.
Over 35 teams and 400 people participated in the event. Mayor Tony Perry welcomed attendees at the the Opening Ceremony, added his dedication to the Wall of Hope sponsored by Memorial Sloan Kettering and joined cancer survivors, caregivers and teams in walking around the track to recognize this important cause.

RallyCap Sports "Rallies" Support to Qualify for Jersey Mike's "Month of Giving"
|
|
|
|
 On Friday, June 7th, Mayor Tony Perry stopped by Jersey Mike's (1209 NJ-35) to support RallyCap Sports, a nonprofit organization that gives children with special needs the opportunity to play sports. The Rally Cappers brought a poster signed by hundreds of parents and RallyCap supporters and players in an effort to qualify for the 2020 Jersey Mike’s "Month of Giving" which raises money to support charities nationwide. We wish them the best of luck!

Last Friday, Mayor Tony Perry sat down with Larry Mendte of "Jersey Matters" to discuss topics such as the NESE pipeline controversy, school funding and his role as the youngest Mayor in Middletown's history.

Congratulations to Middletown Preschool's Class of 2019!

 Middletown Preschool students and their families gathered at the Middletown Arts Center on Thursday, June 13th for their graduation ceremony. Mayor Perry gave the commencement speech and thanked the Middletown Preschool teachers for their dedication. Committeewoman Pat Snell congratulated all the little graduates on their hard work this year. We hope our preschoolers reach for the stars in Kindergarten
next year!

MTPD Participates in 36th Annual Torch Run Benefiting New Jersey Special Olympics On Friday, June 7th the Middletown Township Police Department, sponsored by the Middletown PBA Local 124, participated in the 36th Annual New Jersey Law Enforcement Torch Run. The local run, which is one of 26 legs held across the state, started in Middletown around noon. The officers then passed the "Flame of Hope" to Holmdel officers around 1:30 PM. The culmination of the run is the lighting of the cauldron which opens the 2019 Special Olympics New Jersey Summer Games at The College of New Jersey in Ewing. The officers ran to raise funds and awareness for the Special Olympics which provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Scholarship Opportunity for Library Students The Middletown Township Public Library Board of Trustees has announced that the Conover-Wihtol Scholarship will be awarded to a student interested in a career in the rewarding and challenging profession of librarianship.
Additional information and application forms are available at the Middletown Township Public Library (55 New Monmouth Road, Middletown). Completed application forms must be postmarked no later than August 14th. Scholarship(s) will be announced after the August 21st Library Board of Trustees meeting.

Route 35 Construction Project
Construction work on Route 35 began Monday, May 6th northbound from Cooper’s Bridge (Red Bank) to Cherry Tree Farm Road and southbound from Cherry Tree Farm Road to New Monmouth Road.
Road work will be done with temporary lane closures from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM and from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM. All work is weather-dependent.
The project, which consists of repairs and replacement of concrete vertical curb, installation of public curb ramps, repairs to drainage structures and resurfacing of the roadway, is estimated to be completed by December 2019. Please keep an eye out for possible changes to the schedule.
