On Wednesday, September 4th, Mayor Tony Perry and the Middletown Township Committee hosted a press conference at Navesink Hook & Ladder Fire Company to introduce the Middletown Emergency Volunteer Incentive Program. Chiefs and volunteers from the Middletown Township Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services, and Office of Emergency Management, along with former New Jersey State Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, joined them to announce this new initiative that will offer benefits to volunteer first responders to thank them for their dedicated service. “Our emergency volunteers truly make up the fabric of our community,” said Mayor Tony Perry. “I am constantly in awe of them for leaving their loved ones to run into a burning building, the scene of an accident, or a natural disaster to save a fellow human being who they may never meet again. I am incredibly proud to show our gratitude to these heroes by establishing this program.” Click HERE to read our press release for more information.

Middletown Remembers: 23rd Anniversary Memorial Service on Wednesday, 9/11 at 7:00 PM and Middletown PBA Local 124 Annual 9/11 5K on Saturday, 9/7
The community is invited to attend our annual 9/11 memorial service on Wednesday, September 11th at 7:00 PM. There will be a moment of silence, wreath tribute, and a candlelit walk through the Middletown World Trade Center Memorial Gardens (36 Church Street next to the Middletown Arts Center). This anniversary tribute will honor the 37 residents who perished on that tragic day and those who have died from 9/11-related illnesses, including late Detective Lt. Joseph Capriotti, known as the "keeper of the list". He personally notified every Middletown family who lost a loved one that day. Prior to the memorial service, Middletown PBA Local 124 will be holding its 4th annual 9/11 Memorial 5K on Saturday, September 7th. Proceeds will be donated to a scholarship that the PBA is creating in honor of Detective Lt. Joseph Capriotti and to local nonprofit The P.O. Ken Tietjen Memorial Foundation, which was created in memory of late Middletown resident, police officer, and volunteer firefighter Kenneth Tietjen who gave his life in the line of duty on September 11, 2001. Township Committee Proclaims September 2024 as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month

At Monday's meeting, the Middletown Township Committee recognized both Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and the Turn the Towns Teal initiative as well as Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month with proclamations. Michele Collins, a Middletown resident and ovarian cancer survivor, accepted the Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month proclamation and spoke about Turn the Towns Teal, a national campaign to promote ovarian cancer awareness and its symptoms by placing biodegradable teal ribbons around town. The campaign was the inspiration of Gail MacNeil of Chatham, NJ and goes forward in her name and honor. Mayor Tony Perry called Leonardo resident Vinny Moran to the dais to join him and Michele during this presentation. Vinny recently lost his wife Jackie to ovarian cancer and wanted to help make others aware of this disease in her memory. Michele provided information about statistics, early warning signs, and preventative measures and shared that her cousin Christine recently was taken by this disease. Their raw emotion was felt by all and served as a poignant reminder to pay attention to your body if you’re experiencing any unusual symptoms. Learn more about symptoms and risk factors HERE. Mayor Perry was then joined by Andrea and Natalie Gorsegner of local non-profit Infinite Love for Kids Fighting Cancer who spoke about the organization’s efforts to fund much-needed pediatric cancer research grants. They also invited the community to support the upcoming Love for Luca 5K to help raise money for this important cause. The Love for Luca 5K began in 2022 and is held in memory of Luca Iacono, a beloved 11-year-old resident who passed away from cancer in 2019. All proceeds from the third annual Love for Luca 5K, which is taking place on Sunday, September 22nd, will be donated to Infinite Love. Click HERE to register. Infinite Love will also be holding its second annual Designer Bag Bingo + Basket Raffle on Friday, October 4th. Sign up HERE. Click HERE to watch the meeting on the Township's YouTube channel or catch it on our TV channel (Verizon FiOS Channel 26/Comcast Cable Channel 20) every night at 5:00 PM and 8:30 PM through Sunday, September 22nd.

Participate in North Middletown-Port Monmouth Neighborhood Plan Survey and Meetings
Middletown Township, Ideal Beach Community Association, Bayshore Family Success Center, Affordable Housing Alliance, and Habitat for Humanity are creating a community-driven neighborhood plan for the North Middletown-Port Monmouth area! This neighborhood planning process will bring together residents, business owners, public officials, local organizations, and other stakeholders to develop a comprehensive set of proposed strategies and activities to improve the community. Once completed, this neighborhood plan will unlock special state funding to implement these proposed strategies through the New Jersey Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit (NRTC) Program. The first community meeting was held in May and a second community discussion was held at the North Middletown-Port Monmouth Family Fun Day in July. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, September 26th at 6 PM at Ocean Avenue Elementary School (235 Ocean Avenue). We encourage residents who live in the planning area to complete this Google survey (which can also be accessed via the QR code above).
