On Friday, May 17th the Middletown Township Police Department (MTPD) held its annual Police Memorial Service during National Police Week. Everyone gathered at the Middletown Police Memorial, located at the corner of Kings Highway and Route 35, to remember our fallen police and K-9 officers who served the MTPD. Current and retired MTPD officers, loved ones of the deceased officers, and community members came to pay their respects. Mayor Tony Perry, Township Committee members, and Township staff were also in attendance. The service began with a Presentation of Colors by the Middletown Honor Guard, Call to Order, and the Pledge of Allegiance. Police Chaplain Reverend Dr. Dan Correa led the ceremony with an invocation. Chief of Police R. Craig Weber and Mayor Tony Perry delivered speeches at the event, and retired Deputy Chief Eugene Hannafey and retired Sergeant Richard Deickmann read the names of Middletown's deceased officers. The benediction was delivered by Deacon Marty McMahon. Family and friends of the officers in our memorial were then invited to place flowers at the monuments. New Jersey State Police officers Daniel Murphy and E.J. Hannafey played “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes, and Middletown High School North student Ty Boehler performed TAPS on the trumpet.

How to Report a Neighborhood Safety Concern The Safety Council of Middletown would like to hear from residents about any safety concerns that may be occurring in their neighborhood. The Safety Council is an advisory board that reviews safety concerns in the township and provides guidance to the Township Committee and the Police Department. Some safety issues the board can help address include: - Speeding
- Parking on busy roads that impact traffic flow
- Roads that flood from little rainfall
- Traffic not adhering to crosswalk or stop signs
- Trees and branches that are limiting passage on sidewalks
- Sidewalks that are uprooted or damaged that could cause someone to fall
- Unusual amount of traffic or people congregating at a specific house in your neighborhood that could indicate possible illegal activity
- Garbage piling up on side roads or on a lot in your neighborhood
If you would like a safety issue addressed, please inform the Council so they can help you achieve a successful outcome. You can report your safety concern by contacting the Middletown Crossing Guard Office at 732-615-2100 ext. 2044 or by emailing bpfleger@middletownnj.org.
