At the March 4th Township Committee Meeting, Mayor Tony Perry ceremoniously swore in Susan Schroeder Clark, Esq. to serve as the first female municipal court judge in the Township’s history. Ms. Clark’s appointment was unanimously approved by the Township Committee by resolution at the February 20th meeting. She began serving Middletown Township on Thursday, March 7th.

“It is particularly meaningful that we are swearing in the Honorable Judge Clark during Women’s History Month,” said Mayor Tony Perry. “On behalf of the Township Committee, I welcome her as the first woman to hold the job and look forward to the impact she will make in our community.”

Middletown Continues Celebrating Read Across America!

Read Across America collage
Deputy Mayor and His Mother Read at Bayview Elementary School

Deputy Mayor Hibell and his mom Denise Hibell, a retired Middletown Township Public School teacher who taught at Bayview, read a book together.

This week, Mayor Tony Perry and Deputy Mayor Rick Hibell were guest readers at several schools throughout Middletown in honor of Read Across America Week, a nationwide event that celebrates reading and imagination.

On Wednesday, Mayor Perry began his morning at Fairview Elementary School where he read Sofia Valdez, Future Prez by Andrea Beaty to the entire 5th grade (Ms. Valinotti's and Ms. Sabolchick's classes). Later that day, Mayor Perry stopped by New Monmouth Elementary School to read Say Something! by Peter H. Reynolds to 1st graders (Ms. Callas' and Vaughan's classes).

At the same time, Deputy Mayor Hibell was at Bayview Elementary School where he read Superhero School by Aaron Reynolds to 3rd graders (Ms. Fichner's, Ms. Reda's, and Mrs. Silverstein's classes) - in his 4th grade classroom and with the help of his mom who used to teach there! While there, Deputy Mayor Hibell also ran into his 4th grade teacher who was a guest reader in a different classroom!

Mayor Perry ended this week of fun at Nut Swamp Elementary School where he read What Do You Do with An Idea? by Kobi Yamada to 4th and 5th graders. The students asked important questions about the mayor's role and our community and had a lively discussion about the importance of voicing your opinion and not being afraid to share your ideas. Special thanks to Reading Specialist Jennifer Binney for organizing the guest readers and to all the teachers and students for the warm welcome (4th grade teachers: Miss Montgomery, Mrs. Montesano, Mrs. Gimeli, and Mrs. MacLellan and 5th grade teachers: Miss G. Wills, Mrs. Wills, Miss Halek, Mrs. Hurley, Mrs. Ferrari and Mrs. Jennings). The morning of learning wrapped up with an impressive 4th grader reciting the names of all the U.S. Presidents to Mayor Perry. Well done!
