It's not too late to register for the 4th annual Mayor's Challenge happening TOMORROW, October 22nd!

Lace up your sneakers and join Recreation to exercise for a cause! The morning will be an event for the whole family – choose from the 5K Fitness Walk, a family-friendly 1 Mile Fun Run, or gear up for the 5K Race!


All proceeds will benefit the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a 501(c)(3) that honors our military and first responders who have either been catastrophically injured or have lost their lives by providing mortgage assistance to their families. Registration includes a long-sleeve sports-tek shirt and medal (while supplies last).

Dedicated Volunteer Thomas P. Somerville Honored for
50 Years of Service with EMS

At Monday's meeting, the Township Committee recognized Thomas P. Somerville for volunteering 50 years of service to Emergency Medical Services' (EMS) Fairview First Aid Squad. Tom has undertaken many different positions and designed unique ambulances for the squad. He still teaches a variety of classes and serves as a boat handler of the Fairview Dive Team. 

The Township Committee celebrated this milestone by proclaiming
October 17, 2022 as Thomas P. Somerville Day. He was also given a certificate and Key to the Township this summer when he was recognized for his 50 years of service to the MTFD. Middletown is so grateful for his invaluable contributions.

The Township Committee presented its 2022 Green Business Award to
Greene Street Joinery (213 Wilson Avenue) at Monday's meeting. This Middletown-based furniture shop operates in an environmentally-friendly way by choosing lumber that is native and sustainably harvested, using chemical-free finishes, and making pieces that are multigenerational and can be used for decades.

Habitat for Humanity Hosts Building Event to Fundraise for Home Lot Donated by Township

Mayor Tony Perry speaks about the importance of Habitat for Humanity's mission and how proud he is of Middletown's involvement with this project.
On Wednesday, October 19th,  Mayor Tony Perry attended the opening ceremony for Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County’s (HFHMC) 7th Annual “House that Rock Built” Build Event in partnership with WRAT 95.9 and Monmouth Mall. The purpose of this “House that Rock Built” was to fundraise and construct frames for HFHMC’s 61st affordable single-family home to be built on Ideal Avenue in Middletown. The property was donated by the Township. Both Mayor Perry and Mayor Anthony Talerico Jr. of Eatontown spoke at the event and thanked Habit for Humanity as well as the volunteers and organizations who participated in this important project.

Community Fire Company Celebrates 100th Anniversary

Members of the Middletown Township Committee, along with local elected officials, enjoyed celebrating Community Fire Company's 100th  anniversary last weekend! Mayor Tony Perry, Deputy Mayor and Ex-Fire Chief Rick Hibell, and Committeeman and Ex-Fire Chief Ryan Clarke gifted the company a proclamation and thanked members for their service. Community Fire Company is the second centennial Middletown has celebrated in the past two weeks!

Thank you to everyone who has served on our all-volunteer fire department.

Middletown Township Police Department (MTPD) Chief R. Craig Weber was inducted into Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) Chiefs’ Circle on Thursday, October 13th. He also received a challenge coin from the school's administration. The Chiefs' Circle recognizes honored alumni who have graduated from the School of Public and Global Affairs with a Master of Administrative Science Degree and have achieved the outstanding career status of Chief of Police in their respective law enforcement agencies.

Demolition of Old Police Station Begins

This week, demolition began on the Police Station which is the last of the old Town Hall buildings to be torn down. Last week, the old Town Hall was demolished and last month the other Town Hall building (which was most recently used as a boxing gym) was removed.

Once the Police Station is fully demolished, the Township will be able to make way for a large parking lot for the new municipal complex.

Mayor Tony Perry and Deputy Mayor Rick Hibell kicked off last weekend by supporting No Limits Cafe's 2nd annual 5K! No Limits Cafe (418 NJ-35) is a local 501(c)(3) organization that trains and employs adults with intellectual disabilities to run a restaurant. The lunch cafe advocates for inclusivity and empowers adults with intellectual disabilities — all while serving delicious meals!

Daughters of the American Revolution's Middletown Chapter Marks Grave of American Revolution Doctor at Fairview Cemetery

Last weekend, the Middletown chapter of the nonprofit Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) began its quest to identify and mark the graves of all the American Revolutionary War patriots in Monmouth County. The chapter, along with the help of volunteers, is repairing fallen or broken stones, cleaning them, and replacing ones that are either missing or damaged beyond repair.

Mayor Tony Perry and Deputy Mayor Rick Hibell were honored to join Middletown's DAR for its first ceremony, which was held in honor of Dr. Jacobus Hubbard at Fairview Cemetery. Dr. Hubbard served active duty as a surgeon in the 1st Regiment under Colonel Asher Holmes's command.

Mayor Tony Perry, Committeeman Ryan Clarke, and MTPD Chief Craig Weber were honored to attend the consecration of Saint Mary, Mother of God Church (19 Cherry Tree Farm Road) last Sunday. Bishop David O'Connell consecrated the Diocesan Shrine, Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament. He also blessed the new Altar of Repose for the tabernacle in the church's sanctuary and the new statue of
Mary, Mother of God.

Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon is reminding Monmouth County voters who choose to vote by mail that they can sign up for the County’s enhanced ballot tracking notification system: BallotTrax. Voters who sign up for the Monmouth County BallotTrax will receive alerts of when their ballots are received by the County Board of Elections for counting. Voters can opt to enable notifications by text message or email, and can sign up for the software at MonmouthBallotTrax.com.

Traffic Safety and Detours

On Saturday, October 22nd, Nutswamp Road/Hubbard Avenue will be intermittently closed from River Plaza Elementary School (155 Hubbard Avenue) to the area of Nut Swamp and Michael Drive due to a school event. The road is expected to be closed from 8 - 11 AM. Local residents in the affected area will have access when police personnel find it safe to open sections of roadway for vehicular traffic. Please plan an alternate route.
