Proceeds from the 5K will go to a memorial scholarship fund created in honor of late Middletown Township Police Department (MTPD) Detective Lieutenant Joseph Capriotti. As "keeper of the list" of the 37 Township residents we tragically lost on 9/11, Capriotti personally notified every single Middletown family who had lost a loved one that day. As a result of his response to Ground Zero, he contracted cancer and lost his battle in June 2019. The memorial scholarship fund was created as a way to pay tribute to the tremendous impact he has made to the families of the victims and to our community.Click HERE to register and for information about how you and/or your company can sponsor this event!

Middletown Township Police Department (MTPD) wrapped up its Senior Police Youth Week Camp today! There were 21 kids between the ages of 12 and 13 who participated in this program which gave them more insight into what it's like to be a police officer. Participants spent this week learning how to conduct a police investigation from start to finish. Their days began with exercises followed by a police lineup. During the lineup, they were given clues and reports about a recent string of store burglaries. The investigation concluded with each camper completing an interrogation and securing confessions from the criminal.
The week concluded with a graduation ceremony on Friday, August 19th at Brookdale Community College's Robert J. Collins Arena. Each graduate received a certificate and a well-earned Challenge Coin. Police Chief Craig Weber and Committeeman Ryan Clarke congratulated each child. Kudos to our Police Youth Week graduates and the officers who run this amazing program!

New Jersey American Water Granted New Rates by New Jersey Board of Public Utilities The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) approved a settlement this week between New Jersey American Water and the N.J. Division of Rate Counsel, BPU Staff, and several intervenors for new water and wastewater rates for New Jersey American Water. The approved rates represent a total annualized revenue increase of approximately $45.5 million.
The company’s rate request was filed on January 14, 2022 and was primarily driven by more than $985 million in infrastructure investment in treatment system and distribution upgrades since its last rate filing.
The new rates will become effective September 1, 2022. With the approved rate increase, the monthly bill for an average water customer using 5,520 gallons will increase approximately $2.93, and the monthly bill for an average wastewater customer will increase approximately $3.74. Even with the new rates, the cost of high-quality, reliable, water and wastewater service continues to be about one penny per gallon and remains among the lowest household utility bills.

Spotted Lanternflies Have Returned: Tips for How to Prevent the Spread and Report Sightings to NJDA
Spotted lanternflies are being spotted everywhere! This insect is a serious invasive pest that feeds on sap from over 70 different plant species. Spotted lanternflies can negatively impact our agriculture, economy, and everyday life through the honeydew they excrete, which eventually turns into mold.
The Middletown Health Department advises residents to kill and report them to the NJDA when spotted. The Middletown Health Department also encourages residents to utilize the NJDA's checklist for spotted lanternfly quarantine areas, in an effort to stop the spread. Click HERE to read the NJDA's checklist. Click HERE for instructions on how to report a sighting to the NJDA.
