In response to the bridge strike that occurred last month on Laurel Avenue between Holland Road and Route 35, NJ Transit will be performing repairs on the North Jersey Coast Line Bridge that goes over Laurel Avenue in both Holmdel and Middletown. These repairs will cause various lane closures along Laurel Avenue for approximately two months. Beginning Monday, April 18th, Laurel Ave. will be completely closed. Detours (directing residents to Holland Rd. to Church St. to New Monmouth Rd. to Rt. 35) will be put in place, but we encourage residents to plan alternate routes. Officers will be present to help regulate traffic.

Temporary Scheduled Water Treatment Change to End in NJAW's Monmouth and Ocean County Service Areas on 4/18On Monday, April 18th, New Jersey American Water (NJAW) will resume using chloramines in water treatment at its Swimming River Water Treatment Plant in Colts Neck and its Jumping Brook Water Treatment Plant in Neptune. This effects NJAW customers in Middletown, as well as other towns throughout Monmouth County.
In February, as part of an annual routine maintenance program for its water distribution system, New Jersey American Water temporarily changed the water treatment process from a chloramine (combination) residual to free chlorine residual. The nine-week planned changeover to free chlorine residual enabled the company to perform routine maintenance.
During the transition to free chlorine residual, some customers may have noticed a slight chlorine taste and odor in their water. With the resumption of the chloramination process, the taste and smell of chlorine will subside. Chloramines have long been effective method of water disinfection that meet all EPA and NJDEP drinking water standards and have been used in Monmouth and Ocean counties since 2012.
