Middletown Township Police Department held its 4th annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 3rd at Poricy Park! National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods even safer and more caring places to live.
Thank you to everyone who attended this great event. MTPD and K-9 officers, Township Committee members, and local organizations were thrilled to connect with the community and to get to know our residents better. With the fun activities, delicious food, and amazing music, National Night Out was truly a night to remember — especially for those who got to land Mayor Perry in the dunk tank!Click HERE to view more photos from this year's event.

Middletown Honors Naval Weapons Station Earle Lieutenant Commander Jack Smock, Jr. with Key to the Township at Retirement Ceremony

 On Friday, August 6th, Mayor Tony Perry was one of several speakers to honor Lieutenant Commander Jack Smock, Jr. for his 30 years of service to the U.S. Navy and our nation at his retirement ceremony at Naval Weapons Station Earle in Colts Neck.
|
|
|
 On behalf of the Middletown Township Committee, Mayor Perry thanked Lieutenant Commander Smock for helping keep our community safe by honoring him with a Key to the Township and a proclamation.
|
|
|
 Members of the Middletown Township Committee, Middletown Township Police Department, and Mayor's Office celebrated Lieutenant Commander Smock's retirement with his family, friends, and colleagues.
|
|
|
|
On Friday, August 6th, Mayor Tony Perry, along with members of the Township Committee, Police Department, and Mayor's Office attended Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Jack Smock, Jr.'s deeply moving retirement ceremony at Naval Weapons Station Earle Mainside located in Colts Neck. LCDR Smock has been the Executive Officer at Naval Weapons Station Earle since 2019 and will finish both his time at the station, and in the United States Navy, this September.
Mayor Perry presented LCDR Smock with a Key to the Township to thank him for his 30 years of faithful and honorable service to the United States Navy and our nation, as well as for keeping our community safe through his leadership. We wish LCDR Smock a well-deserved retirement and many wonderful years ahead with his beautiful family.

The Middletown Township World Trade Center Memorial Gardens Committee is selling 20th anniversary 9/11 remembrance yard signs and personalized street banners to raise money that will go toward renovations and improvements to our WTC Memorial Gardens (36 Church Street). The committee will be selling signs and taking orders for banners at ShopRite (1361 NJ-35 South) this weekend from 9 AM to 12 PM. Bring your order confirmation number if you already placed an order. Yard signs will be available for $40. Personalized street banners that feature your business or family name will be available for $500. Middletown will line the streets leading up to the memorial with these beautiful remembrance banners. Once taken down, the banner will be given to you as a keepsake.
You can also stop by the Middletown Arts Center (36 Church Street) during regular business hours to purchase a lawn sign by cash or check.

IBCA Holds Annual Ice Cream Social on National Night Out

 Committeewoman Pat Snell stopped by IBCA's annual ice cream social to support our first responders.
|
|
|
|
On National Night Out, the Ideal Beach Community Association (IBCA) hosted its annual Ice Cream Social at Roosevelt Park in North Middletown to support our police officers, volunteer firefighters, and first aid squads. The first 100 people who arrived received a ticket for free ice cream from Sweet Treats, a local ice cream truck. IBCA also collected cases of water for Middletown's first responders.

MTPL Will Be Closed This Weekend

The Middletown Township Public Library will be closed this weekend. This closure is due to HVAC replacement on the library roof. During this time, all due dates will be extended on checked-out materials. MTPL parking lots and drive-thru book and media drops will also be closed to traffic during library closure.

Middletown Recreation and MYAA to Host MLB Pitch, Hit & Run Competition on Friday, 8/13 at 7 PM

Join Middletown Recreation and the Middletown Youth Athletic Association on Friday, August 13th at Campbell Field in Bodman Park for the MLB Pitch, Hit & Run Competition! This FREE event will take place from 5 to 7 PM. Pre-registration is not required, but recommended.
The MLB Pitch, Hit & Run competition provides youth across the country an opportunity to participate in an exciting baseball/softball skills competition. This national initiative gives boy and girls, ages 7-14, the chance to showcase their pitching, hitting, and running abilities and to emphasize the "FUN" element of baseball/softball. The award ceremony will take place immediately following the competition.
For the official divisions, scores will be recorded and sent to the MLB to possibly advance to the next round. Winners of our competition are not guaranteed to advance; it will depend upon all scores of local competitions.

Embark on a Guided Fossil Hunt at Poricy Park on Wednesday, 8/11 at 4 PM

Calling all amateur paleontologists! Come dig up some Middletown history at the Poricy Brook Fossil Beds (1803 Middletown-Lincroft Road) on Wednesday, August 11th from 4 - 5 PM. Expect to find marine fossils from the Cretaceous period, 65-72 million years ago.
Meet directly at the Poricy Park Fossil Beds for a short orientation before getting right into the fossil beds. An experienced guide will provide you with a trowel and sifter, as well as help you identify your treasures. Please wear rubber boots or old sneakers, as your feet will get wet. Sandals, flip-flops, and other slip-on footwear are prohibited. The event costs $5 per participant. Click HERE to sign up.

Vanessa is a cooking instructor, writer, and educator known for her artful approach to food and wellness topics and her focus on seasonal meals. Think “Spicy Summer: Thai Iced Tea,” “Rosemary Jalapeño Lemonade,” and “Pink Pepper Berry”.

DPW and MAC's Trash & Recycling Sculpture Art Contest Deadline Extended to Friday, 8/27

The Middletown Department of Public Works and the Middletown Arts Center are seeking trash sculptures to display at the Township's new outdoor Ecological Garden at DPW (52 Kanes Lane). Winners will receive a gift bag that includes a MAC gift certificate and they will also have their artwork showcased at Middletown Day as an example of a creative way to reduce, reuse, and recycle! With peak season for hurricanes in New Jersey approaching from mid-August through October, now is the perfect time to volunteer and support your community!
