  1. Landmarks Commission Meeting

    August 19, 2021, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

    The Middletown Landmarks Commission meets on the third Thursday of each month. The Landmarks Commission promotes the educational, cultural, economic, and general welfare of Middletown through the preservation of historic buildings and structures, and of places and districts of historic interest. They also work to preserve the development and maintenance for such buildings, structures, places and districts. The Commission provides architectural review of structures within Historic Districts and identifies and records all buildings, sites, places and structures of significant historical or architectural value and aids the public in understanding their worth. They also help preserve historic cemeteries scattered throughout the township.

    Visit local Middletown history! The Joseph Murray Farmhouse (c. 1770) will be open this summer evening for public visitors to see inside. An interpreter will be on site to answer questions and lead tours. No reservations needed.

  2. Guided Fossil Hunt

    August 11, 2021, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM @ Poricy Park Fossil Beds

    Calling all amateur paleontologists! Come dig up some Middletown history at the Poricy Brook Fossil Beds. Expect to find marine fossils from the Cretaceous period, 65-72 million years ago. Meet directly at the Poricy Park Fossil Beds for a short orientation before getting right into the fossil beds. An experienced guide will provide you with a trowel and sifter, as well as help you identify your treasures. Please wear rubber boots or old sneakers, as your feet will get wet. Sandals, flip-flops, and other slip-on footwear are prohibited.

  3. Pond Netting (PreK)

    August 18, 2021, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM @ Poricy Park

    Find what's at the bottom of the Murray Pond. Look for frogs, turtles, and snakes. Use our nets to catch tadpoles, fish, insect larvae, snails, and other critters. PreK sessions will have some critters pre-fished for exploration, an easy netting opportunity, a visit from our resident tortoise Chaser, and a story. Dress to get muddy! We will begin at the pond. From the main parking lot, you can drive down the gravel road and park along the circle by the farmhouse. Or, budget about 10 minutes to walk down. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Elementary afternoon sessions will include water testing, netting and identification, and a take-home craft. Dress to get muddy! Program will begin at the Nature Center Pavilion.
