Middletown Veterans Affairs Committee and VFW Post 2179 Host Beautiful Four Chaplains Memorial Service
Residents of Middletown and surrounding communities came together on Sunday, February 10th for the annual Four Chaplains Memorial Service held at VFW Post 2179 in Port Monmouth. This moving service honors the bravery of four United States Army chaplains, each of a different faith, who made the ultimate sacrifice in February of 1943. These men gave up their life-jackets to save others, both civilian and military, after a torpedo sank the SS Dorchester. Their selfless act serves as an enduring reminder to put aside our differences and show kindness
to those around us.
