Mayor Tony Perry addresses the crowd and shows his support for the project.

On Monday, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. hosted a press conference to announce the final phase of the Port Monmouth Flood Control Project. Mayor Tony Perry, Deputy Mayor Rick Hibell, Department of Public Works employees, and Office of Emergency Management volunteers attended the event where Mayor Perry spoke about the important impact this project will have on our community.

The project, which is fully funded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is expected to be completed in 2028. Contract 4, which will include an additional floodwall along Route 36 and Creek Road, as well as road closure gates at Campbell Avenue and Broadway, is the last piece of this major flood protection operation. The overall goal of the project is to protect our community from storm surges and rising sea levels.

Middletown Township has an ordinance that requires owners of a business or vacant and abandoned property to maintain liability insurance for negligent acts and omissions. The ordinance holds property owners responsible for maintaining and securing the property since vacant, abandoned, and blighted properties can cause a cycle of neighborhood deterioration. The ordinance penalizes owners whose property remains vacant year after year. Please visit middletownnj.org/abandonedproperty to either register your vacant/abandoned property or report a vacant/abandoned property. Prepare Your Home for Winter Storms with Flood Insurance and Precautionary Steps

Snowmelt can lead to floods. Don't flake on insurance. Get flood insurance.

The snow will be here before you know it, so be prepared! Middletown Floodplain Management encourages residents to purchase flood insurance and winterize their homes by insulating walls and attics, caulking and weather-stripping doors and windows, and installing storm windows or covering windows with plastic.

Remember to clear rain gutters, repair roof leaks, and cut away tree branches that could fall on a house or neighboring structure during or following a storm. Keep pathways and driveways clear between storms to avoid buildup of snow piles and icing. Maintain heating equipment and chimneys by having them cleaned and inspected every year by a qualified professional.
