Monday's Township Committee Regular Meeting was an eventful night for the Middletown Township Police Department (MTPD)! Mayor Tony Perry had the honor of kicking off the meeting by promoting Lt. James Prosinski who has proudly served the MTPD for over 33 years. The meeting continued with Mayor Perry swearing in Officers Peter Bracken, Bryan Flannigan, Christopher Glietz, Adrianna Lanfranco, Peter McGovern, Darren Schwedes, and Justin Skelly. MTPD Chief R. Craig Weber also recognized Officer Sarah Derasmo for receiving the Academic Award, Marksmanship Award, and Outstanding Trainee Award from the Monmouth County Police Academy. Lastly, Mayor Perry presented valor awards to Officers Eric Van Schaack, Nicholas Manochio, Tony Perito, and Sergeant Erica Weeks. Officers Eric Van Schaack and Nicholas Manochio worked together this past July when responding to a 911 call where two people were being stabbed while protecting a small child from harm. The two officers had to courageously take matters into their own hands and use defensive tactics to stop the knife-wielding actor. After the suspect was arrested, they provided medical assistance with the help of Sergeant Erica Weeks who utilized tourniquets and provided both physical and emotional assistance to the victims. Officer Tony Perito was recognized for risking his life, while off duty and traveling with his family, during an armed robbery that took place at a rest stop. When he noticed three suspicious actors behaving in a disorderly manner, he intervened. The suspects assaulted him and fled the scene, but Officer Perito relayed the information to the responding troopers which resulted in a traffic stop where the actors were placed under arrest. We are incredibly grateful for Officer Perito's heroic actions and bravery. We are so proud to recognize the MTPD for all they do to protect our community, and thank them for their hard work.

Fair View Cemetery in Middletown was part of National Wreaths Across America Day on Saturday, December 16th. Township Committeeman Ryan Clarke was proud to support the event as volunteers dedicated their time to place wreaths on veterans’ graves. With each wreath placed, the veteran’s name was read aloud to honor and remember them. Fair View Cemetery has been raising money to participate in this movement for the last eight years to remember our local heroes and place a wreath on every grave. If you are interested in volunteering or sponsoring a wreath for Fair View Cemetery next year, please visit their website or follow them on Facebook @Wreaths Across America - Fair View Cemetery.

Last week, students from Thorne Middle School who are members of Project Pride and Peer Leaders raised money for local charity Middletown Helps Its Own. Afterwards, they brought the gifts to the MTPD where they enjoyed pizza and a tour of the department. Middletown Township PBA Local 124 would like to thank everyone who donated to their toy drive!
