Last Sunday, Middletown Township and VFW Post 2179 partnered to host their 66th annual Veterans Day Parade, which stepped off at Bayview Elementary School and ended at VFW Post 2179. This year's theme was "WWII Veterans, The Greatest Generation".

The event began with an invocation by the Chaplain of VFW Post 2179 and the Chaplain of Auxiliary 2179. Following the invocation were the opening remarks and Pledge of Allegiance directed by past VFW Auxiliary Department of NJ President Lori Cannon. Middletown High School North's marching band led the parade alongside honored guests, including the Middletown Township Committee, Middletown Township Police Department Chief R. Craig Weber and Deputy Chief John Werner, Middletown Veterans Affairs Committee member Bob Siemer, members of the Middletown Board of Education, Monmouth County Surrogate Maureen Raisch, Assemblywoman Vicky Flynn, Assemblyman Gerry Scharfenberger, and Senator Declan O'Scanlon.

The parade continued with the Grand Marshal, Buddy Poppy Queen, VFW Post 2179 Commander and Auxiliary 2179, Middletown High School South's marching band, antique cars, local VFW Posts, American Legion Post 515, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 721, Middletown Elks 2179, and local scout troops. Emergency personnel vehicles, including our First Aid and Rescue, Fire Department, Police Department and Explorers, and Office of Emergency Management followed. The parade concluded with a lunch at Post 2179.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our parade and, most importantly, thank you to our veterans for their service! It was an honor to come together as a community and thank our nation's heroes.

Girl Scout Troop 355 Earns Badges from Visit with Mayor Tony Perry

Group photo of Mayor Tony Perry and Troop 355

Mayor Perry and Troop 355 scouts were all smiles after an exciting and educational meeting!

On Monday, Mayor Tony Perry had the pleasure of meeting Girl Scout Troop 355 from Saint Mary School! Troop 355 is a mixed troop with scouts from grades K-5. With this visit, the Daisies earned their Democracy Badge, the Brownies earned their Celebrating Community Badge, and the Juniors earned their Inside Government Badge.

All the scouts had to come prepared with questions for Mayor Perry, and they did not disappoint! Mayor Perry was impressed by their ideas and so happy to see so many girls want to become leaders in their community. He's pretty sure there were some future mayors in the room with him! Thank you to Troop 355 for a great visit!

Examples of accessory apartments

Middletown Township permits owners of single-family residential dwellings to create an accessory apartment on their property for low- and moderate-income households. It can be either in an accessory building (i.e., a second story apartment over a detached garage) or within the single-family dwelling.

The Middletown Accessory Apartment Program is now offering grants up to $60K to help build the apartment. Depending on the type of apartment (low- or moderate-income) and the number of bedrooms, you can collect monthly rents ranging from $800 to $1,800.

Potential occupants must come from the Township’s affordable housing waiting list. Occupants cannot be family or friends.

FHA 203(k) Loan

Tap into Federal Housing Administration’s 203(k) Program to Help Rehab or Renovate Your Home

If you want to finance the purchase of a home that needs rehabilitation or finance improvements to your current home, the Federal Housing Administration’s (FHA) Section 203(k) Rehabilitation Mortgage Insurance Program (203(k) Program) may be the right choice for you. This program is available through FHA-approved lenders and allows homebuyers to finance the purchase of a home or homeowners to refinance a current mortgage, combining the cost of renovations, repairs, or remodeling into a single loan.

The program permits homebuyers and homeowners to have home repair improvements incorporated into their mortgage. This way you can quickly and easily tap into cash to pay for property repairs or improvements, such as those identified by a home inspector or an FHA appraiser. Those who are buying a home can make it move-in ready by remodeling the kitchen, painting the interior, or purchasing new carpet. Homeowners can make property repairs, improvements, or prepare their home for sale. The 203(k) Program is also often used to rebuild or repair after a natural disaster such as a flood or hurricane. It is also available to HUD-approved non-profit organizations and government agencies.
