On Wednesday, July 5th, Middletown commemorated the grand opening of Town Hall with an official ribbon cutting and celebration! Over 2,000 community members, including past and present local elected officials, business owners, and residents, joined the Township for this special occasion.

The fun event kicked off with Middletown Recreation's patriotic-themed bike parade from the Middletown Arts Center to Town Hall! As the bikers arrived, Monmouth County Surrogate Maureen Raisch led the Pledge of Allegiance and Middletown High School South student Ava Romano sang a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem. After Ava's performance, Mayor Perry delivered a powerful speech about the history of Middletown and how this new building will help lead our community into the future and serve residents for decades to come.

After his speech, Mayor Perry cut the ribbon and officially opened the building to all! Township Administrator Tony Mercantante and Chief Financial Officer Colleen Lapp gave tours of Town Hall while Detective First Class Janine Kennedy and Patrolman Kevin Mahon gave tours of the Police Department.

While tours were going on, attendees signed our "Greetings from Middletown" mural which will soon be displayed in Town Hall's lobby, took pictures at our patriotic photo station, visited with Township officials both outside and inside the building, checked out emergency responder vehicles, enjoyed delicious food and drinks from our food trucks and business donors, and played fun games! The whole event was live on the WRAT 95.9 and ended with a fireworks display!

Thank you to our wonderful community for joining us at our grand opening!

Monmouth County to Sponsor Tire Drop-off in Freehold Next Week

The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners is proud to announce a tire drop-off event during the week of July 10-15, available to all County residents.

“The County will host a tire drop-off program at our Highway facility located at 231 Route 539 in Upper Freehold Township from July 10-15 during the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.,” said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Department of Public Works and Engineering. “We will have a container for car tires and a container for truck and tractor tires to assist with this program.”

“Mosquitoes will lay eggs wherever standing water is present. Tires stored outside capture rainwater and become the perfect habitat for mosquitoes. An event like this will help efforts to reduce places where mosquitoes can lay their eggs,” said Commissioner Susan M. Kiley, liaison to the Department of Human Services/Health.

Middletown Partners with Local Nonprofit Save Coastal Wildlife to Help Horseshoe Crabs

Middletown Township recently collaborated with local nonprofit Save Coastal Wildlife to create informative signs about horseshoe crabs at Leonardo Beach and Ideal Beach. The bright yellow signs were installed to alert and inform visitors about this species that briefly comes ashore every year!

Save Coastal Wildlife also encourages community members to volunteer by counting and tagging horseshoe crabs. Visit www.savecoastalwildlife.org for more information.
