At Monday's meeting, the Middletown Township Police Department (MTPD) officially welcomed eight new officers: five Class I Special Law Enforcement Officers (SLEOs) and three Police Officers. Mayor Tony Perry, alongside Chief R. Craig Weber, had the honor of swearing them in while in front of a jam-packed audience. The five SLEOs are Hayleigh Colucci, James Davis, Charles Honan, Michelle Quinonez-Sanchez, Liam Smith, and Shaun Sullivan. The three new police officers are Aidan Carey, William Perez, and Allison Ruane. Congratulations and stay safe! In addition to the swearings-in, the Township Committee and MTPD presented Life-Saving Valor Awards to officers Savvas Roumeliotis and Elzbieta Banel. Despite not wearing any protective fire gear, the two officers entered a house on fire and risked their own lives to save others. Thanks to their joint heroic efforts, no one was injured and the family's dog was saved. We are incredibly grateful for their service. Click HERE to view photos from the meeting.

Now that summer is officially here, so are mosquitos! As part of Mosquito Control Awareness Week, Monmouth County has compiled some preventative tips to help protect yourself, your loved ones, and your home from mosquitos. Middletown Health Department encourages all residents to follow these tips. - Take precautions to protect yourself and your family from mosquito bites. Use insect repellent; limit time outdoors when and where mosquitoes are biting, especially at dawn and dusk; wear long sleeves and long pants and consider treating clothing with permithrin; and empty containers holding water on your property. Mosquitoes breed in standing water.
- Read the Mosquito Habitat Checklist to help you remove containers of standing water around your house and property. Learn about available repellents and how they work.
- Watch a video about how mosquitoes bite and the science behind the bug and its bite.
