Middletown Township is honored to partner with American Legion Post 338 for our annual Memorial Day Parade. We encourage community members to join us in remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. The parade begins at 10:00 AM at Bayshore Middle School (834 Leonardville Road). Visit www.middletownnj.org/parade to view a map of the parade route. With Memorial Day approaching, the Middletown Veterans Affairs Committee (VAC) recently placed new American flags at the Middletown Garden State Parkway overpass for all to see!

Army veteran and Middletown VAC member Richard Furlong fought to get a permit from the state to replace American flags that had been taken down in Middletown. The first set of flags were put up over the Garden State Parkway overpass in November, 2021. VAC members put up new flags this week in recognition of Memorial Day. (Photo courtesy of VAC)

On Tuesday morning, officers throughout the state (including the MTPD) took off for the Police Unity Tour, an annual four-day bicycle ride from New Jersey to Washington, D.C. to raise public awareness about law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty and to show that they will never be forgotten. Local business Two Of A Kind Mac Designs created a bike plaque to honor MTPD Detective Lieutenant Joseph Capriotti who lost his life to a 9/11-related illness. We thank our active and retired officers for participating in this important tribute. Visit www.policeunitytour.com for more information about the event.

Last Friday, Committeewoman Kimberly Kratz attended Women Build, an annual three-day event held by Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County (HFHMC). This year, the non-profit's Women Build event coincided with the launch of its Veterans Build program so they chose to work on a veteran's home in Lincroft. Volunteers took down an old shed and other structures in the backyard that were in disrepair, repaired brickwork, made cabinet doors, and power washed the house. Middletown Township is proud to partner with HFHMC to help meet Monmouth County’s affordable housing needs. The Township also recently donated a property on Ideal Avenue, where construction on a single-family home is expected to begin this month. Visit www.habitatmonmouth.org to learn more about HFHMC.
