Sustainable Jersey representatives recently announced that Middletown has met the rigorous requirements to achieve Sustainable Jersey recertification at the silver-level. This is the second time the Township has been recognized with a silver-level certification since 2019. “I am honored that Middletown is being recognized for its ongoing efforts to focus on building a sustainable future for our community," said Mayor Tony Perry. “Our dedicated employees and volunteers have embarked on several initiatives over the last few years, including renovating our Recycling Center and creating an ecological garden to engage visitors, launching our Community Garden, purchasing electric vehicles, and creating educational materials to share with our residents. These actions will have a lasting impact and better our quality of life from generation to generation." Click HERE to read our press release for more information.

Last weekend, Stefan Gerin and Nicholas Madden from Troop 246 advanced to the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. Committeeman Ryan Clarke, who is also an Eagle Scout, attended their Court of Honor ceremony to personally congratulate them with a certificate on behalf of the Township Committee.
Eagle Scouts must complete service projects to earn this title. Stefan built two raised garden beds and two large planter boxes with lattice out of cedar wood for Christ Church. He also prepared the beds for planting and laid a stone border with gravel for access to the water/hose. The church's garden is used for the Sunday School classes to participate in the Abundant Life Garden Project, which teaches students about water, seeds, soil, animals, and harvest. The students also grow produce there and donate it to the Calico Cat Pantry.
Nicholas built a goat playground for Oasis Farms of OASIS tlc, a local nonprofit whose mission is to promote autism inclusion and acceptance by employing autistic adults to work on its farm. As an avid skateboarder and skier, Nicholas understood the need for outdoor activity, so he decided to build this playground for the goats since they originally had little to do in their pen. The playground needed to be constructed from untreated wood since the goats would eventually chew on it. Nicholas chose cedar as it is one of the most durable and heaviest types of lumber. The structure was 10ft x 2ft x 3ft and includes a separate balance beam.
Congratulations Eagle Scouts Stefan and Nicholas!
