The Stride and Ride Tactical Team, Greg Capriotti, and members of the Township Committee, MTPD and community come together at the monument dedicated to Detective Lt. Joseph Capriotti after the program held at the Middletown WTC Memorial Gardens.

On Monday, the Give2Those Stride and Ride Tactical Team stopped by the Middletown WTC Memorial Gardens (36 Church Street) to pay their respects. Give2Those is a national non-profit with the mission of supporting our veterans and first responders. Each year, the Stride and Ride Tactical Team embarks on a relay that spans 911 miles, beginning at Boston Logan Airport’s 9/11 Memorial and concluding at the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial. The event is held in the beginning of October to honor the members of our military who deployed October 7, 2001, and to pay tribute to the lives lost due to 9/11.
Mayor Tony Perry began the ceremony by reflecting on the 20th anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks. He reiterated Middletown’s vow to never forget the lives we lost that tragic day. Give2Those founder Heather Viveiros and Doug Pickel, owner of Azuant Custom Plaques, then presented a custom-made, wooden flag plaque that was made with “purpleheart” lumber to Greg Capriotti. Greg’s father, late Detective Lt. Joseph Capriotti, was known as the “keeper of the list” of the residents we lost on 9/11 and personally notified every single family who lost a loved one that day. He ultimately gave his life for 9/11 and died from a 9/11-related illness.
Greg, who is a New Jersey State Trooper, spoke about his father’s lasting legacy and was honored to receive the plaque on behalf of his family. Thank you to the Stride and Ride Tactical Team for honoring our hero, Detective Lt. Joseph Capriotti.

Residents Madelyn Lewis and Hailey Keiser were recognized at the Monday, October 4th Township Committee Workshop Meeting for their individual achievements and received congratulatory certificates. Madelyn is the founder of Mady’s Paws and raised $4,125 for the Middletown Township Police Department's K-9 unit due to her fundraising efforts. She has sold an assortment of items, including handmade bracelets, t-shirts, cookies, and hot chocolate. She also hosted a raffle. She is an avid animal lover and aspires to be a K-9 handler when she grows up. We thank Madelyn for helping to protect our K-9 officers!
Softball player Hailey Keiser won in her age division (13/14) at Middletown Recreation’s MLB Pitch, Hit & Run competition in August. She advanced to the Team Championship level in Philadelphia, PA where she won first place and was ranked top three in the tristate area. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for her. Congratulations, Madelyn and Hailey! Middletown is proud to have residents like you!

Middletown Township recently hosted several Clean Communities Mini Grant cleanups throughout town. In September, the Middletown Township Lions Club picked up trash on the roads of Port Monmouth. Last weekend, students and parents of The New School of Monmouth County took part in a beach sweep of Ideal Beach. Together, the groups picked up over 20 bags of trash, equating to more than 250lbs of garbage that would have otherwise polluted our roads and waterways. We are so grateful to both of these groups for their involvement in our community and their efforts in making Middletown a more beautiful place! The Clean Communities Mini Grant Program schedule for 2022 is filling up fast. Visit www.middletownnj.org/minigrants for more information about the program and how to participate in a cleanup.

Watch "Mr. Rickey Calls a Meeting" at the MAC Next Weekend (Friday, 10/15 through Sunday, 10/17)
Come by the Middletown Arts Center (36 Church Street) next weekend to watch "Mr. Rickey Calls a Meeting" by the Dunbar Repertory Company! The production's show dates are Friday, October 15th at 8 PM, Saturday, October 16th at 3 PM and 8 PM, and Sunday, October 17th at 4 PM.
Mr. Rickey Calls a Meeting In this brilliant and timely play, Joe Louis, Paul Robeson, Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, Jackie Robinson, and Brooklyn Dodgers owner Branch Rickey meet in 1947 to discuss a strategy for dropping a baseball bombshell: promoting a Black player to the major leagues. With baseball’s Opening Day one week away, Branch Rickey will call up Jackie Robinson to break the color barrier and play as the Major League’s first Black ballplayer. If he does, Robinson will face loud and heated opposition from virtually every owner, manager, and player as the play becomes a powerful vehicle for analyzing issues of race and society that go beyond baseball.
