Halloween Trick-or-Treating Hours
& Curfew

Middletown Township Police Department announced that Halloween trick-or-treating hours will be from noon to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31st. Please note, as per Township Ordinance 202-1, an 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew will be in effect for people under the age of 18 on October 30th and October 31st.

“Although trick-or-treating has not been prohibited, parents and children are reminded to use caution and observe social distancing guidelines as we are still under a state of emergency due to COVID-19,” said Police Chief Craig Weber. “Those who do plan to trick-or-treat should limit their groups to current household members, consider staying local, and limit the number of houses on their route.”

Residents can contact the Middletown Township Police Department at 732-615-2100 with any safety concerns.

Middletown Launches Economic Relief Program to Help Small Businesses Recover from COVID-19

Middletown Economic Relief Program

Middletown Township today announced the application process for its Middletown Economic Relief Program (MERP) that will provide financial assistance to small businesses in the municipality that have been affected by the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.

During a press conference on Oct. 15, Mayor Tony Perry and the Middletown Township Committee announced the launch of MERP, which will offer up to $15,000 to eligible businesses in the township. Congressman Chris Smith, Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom Arnone, Middletown Economic Development Committee Chairman Abe Littenberg, Township officials, and some local small business owners attended the event.

The program’s funding, which is more than $400,000, was provided through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act and seeks to help businesses that are suffering from the financial impact of COVID-19.  These funds are provided from the Department of Housing and Urban Development via the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG-CV) Program.

“As soon as we learned that the Township would be receiving aid through the (CARES) Act, we swiftly created this program as a mechanism to provide a financial lifeline to our small business owners,” said Mayor Tony Perry, who also serves on the board of the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce. “We understand the emotional and financial burden this pandemic has had on our business owners and want to be able to give something back since they all bring so much to our community.”

Middletown First Responder Saves Father’s Life in McDonald’s
Parking Lot

On October 18th, Bill Gardell, a Middletown volunteer firefighter and former member of Fairview First Aid, saved his father Dennis’s life when he had a heart attack in the parking lot of McDonald’s on Highway 35. “If he didn’t immediately start performing CPR, his father likely would have not survived,” said Middletown Emergency Medical Services Public Information Officer, Django Weigers.  Emergency Medical Services volunteers from Lincroft, Fairview and Port Monmouth first aid squads arrived shortly after the 911 call and assisted with chest compressions and used a defibrillator to restart his heart. Hackensack Meridian Healthcare paramedics also arrived on the scene to help save Mr. Gardell’s life.

NJ Poison Control Center Warns Community About Potential Misuse of Hand Sanitizers

In the COVID-19 era, alcohol-based hand sanitizers are not just a household staple, they are an everyday necessity. Since becoming part of our daily defense against coronavirus infection, these products are kept just about everywhere — from vehicles to handbags/backpacks to lunchboxes. Although hand sanitizers play an important role in preventing infection and slowing the spread of COVID-19, these products can result in potentially serious health consequences. In fact, hand sanitizers carry a potential for misuse, abuse and accidental exposure which can lead to alcohol overdose (poisoning).
