Counselor Age Requirement Lowered from 16 to 15 and Hourly Rate Increased to $15/hour
In an effort to increase summer camp staff, Middletown Recreation is now hiring camp counselors ages 15+ and the salary has been increased from $13.00/hour to $15.00/hour.
If Recreation is unable to hire additional counselors by Wednesday, June 8th, the Township is at risk of having to scale back summer camp to a reduced program as follows:
- The “Trailblazers” and “Pioneers” camps for the 2022 summer season will be canceled. “Pioneers” is the preschool camp located at the Tonya Keller Community Center and “Trailblazers” is the middle-school day-trip camp based out of the same location. Families enrolled in these programs will be contacted by the Recreation Department and receive a full refund.
- Staff from the canceled programs will be reassigned to Poricy Park Camps (“Tadpoles,” “Froglets,” and “Frogs”) and Croydon Hall Camps (“Buccaneers,” “Explorers,” and “Navigators”).
Recreation is hoping to run Croydon Hall and Poricy Park without any changes. Every effort will be made to avoid camp cancellations.
Jobseekers are encouraged to apply by Monday, June 6th by contacting the Recreation Department (732-615-2260 or email@example.com). Applications can be found at //www.middletownnj.org/recjobs. Summer camp runs from Tuesday, July 5th through Friday, August 12th. Applicants must be available to work all six weeks.
Recreation will structure camp in the most practical way possible given the number of committed staff we have on Wednesday, June 8th. For those who have signed up for camp that we are unable to accommodate, the Township will provide a full refund. An update will be posted next week on the website and social media.
