[ARCHIVED] Tropical Storm Warning Through Friday Morning

Nixle Storm Alert 8320

A Tropical Storm Warning and Flash Flood Watch is in effect for all coastal areas through Friday morning. High winds and high tide flooding is expected.

New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Division of Coastal Engineering( NJDEP-DCE) will be placing the Port Monmouth Road Tide Gate and Pump Station into “Spring Mode” this evening. The facility will operate as a precaution to Tropical Storm Elsa and DCE will monitor the event throughout the evening and into the morning. The Wilson Avenue floodgate will remain open to allow runoff from the affected streets to drain to Pews Creek and pump out to the bay if levels rise high enough.

Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees, and power lines. Please bring in or secure any loose items on your property. For more high wind safety rules and guidelines, visit the National Weather Service website

As grounds are saturated and storm pipes are full due to recent storms, the Department of Public Works will be clearing off some covered storm drains on streets in known problem areas

If you live in an area that is prone to flooding, we advise you to move your vehicle to higher ground. If necessary, you can park at the Middletown Train Station parking lots.

The Township may close some roads due to flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. Water may be deeper than you think. You will be putting yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged.

Please adhere to the following rules when using a generator as the tropical storm-force winds and potential for heavy rain could knock out power.

  • 10 feet of clearance is required from any structure
  • Use UL approved extension cords
  • Ensure carbon monoxide alarms and smoke detectors are functioning in all businesses/homes while using a generator

To report downed wires or power outages call 1-888-LIGHTSS or click the “Report Outage” link at www.firstenergycorp.com. Please remember, never go near a downed power line, even if they think it is no longer carrying electricity.
