Community Can Quickly Find Out Who Is Open for Business

For Immediate Release – April 29, 2020

MIDDLETOWN, NJ – In support of Middletown’s “Takeout Thursdays” initiative and small business recovery efforts, the Middletown Economic Development Committee (MEDC) today announced that it has created a database of local restaurants to provide an easy way for community members to search for details regarding their favorite establishments.

Members of the MEDC recently recruited volunteers to call all restaurant owners in town to gather information about whether their business was open, how patrons can order food, pickup and delivery options, and if they are on apps such as DoorDash, Uber Eats and GrubHub. The Committee also created a map of open restaurants across town where you can hover over the teardrop to see the name of the restaurant along with the information provided in the database.

“As leaders in the Middletown business community, it is our responsibility to help other business owners navigate the current situation and facilitate a COVID-19 economic recovery plan,” said Abe Littenberg, Chairman of the Economic Development Committee and partner in Guttenplan’s Frozen Dough. “This is the first of many actions the MEDC will take to help get businesses back on their feet again.”

To access the restaurant database, visit www.middletownnj.org/restaurants or visit www.middletownnj.org/restaurantmap to utilize the map tool.

“Middletown is incredibly fortunate to have an esteemed group of leaders from various industries guiding the path toward economic recovery,” said Mayor Tony Perry. “When we work together, I am confident that our small businesses will not only survive this pandemic, but thrive in the face of it considering how much they have already adapted over the last 6 weeks.”

If a business owner would like to have his or her restaurant added to the database, email publicinfo@middletownnj.org with the required information: Business name, address, phone/website, the days/hours of operation, and yes or no responses to whether you can order by phone, via the website, if you have inside pickup, curbside drive-thru, self-delivery, and if your business is on DoorDash, Uber Eats or GrubHub. If a restaurant owner would like to update the information in the database, email the changes to publicinfo@middletownnj.org.

This database features restaurants that are located in Middletown. If you are a Middletown restaurant owner with a sister restaurant that serves the local community, you may submit that business as well. If you have additional questions, please contact the Middletown Economic Development Committee at 732-786-4130.
