[ARCHIVED] Middletown Township Police Department Promotes Officer to Sergeant and Hires 4 New Officers

MIDDLETOWN, NJ – The Middletown Township Police Department (MTPD) promoted Officer John Soltysik to the rank of Sergeant and hired four officers in August 2019. Michael R. Allen, Daniel Flannigan, Matthew Geiss and Michael A. Masiello accepted their Oaths of Office and were ceremonially sworn in by Mayor Tony Perry at the Township Committee meeting on Monday, September 23, 2019.


BIOGRAPHIES

Sergeant John Soltysik

Officer John Soltysik, 36, was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on August 18, 2019. Sergeant Soltysik was born in Red Bank and raised in Middletown. He earned a BA in History from Georgian Court University and then enlisted in the Marine Corps for four years where he served our country in Operation Iraqi Freedom as well as Operation Phantom Fury. A graduate of the Cape May County Police Academy, Sgt. Soltysik was hired by the MTPD in August of 2007 as a Patrolman and has been dedicated to serving the community in that role for over a decade. He currently lives in Howell with his wife Kelly and their two children. His wife Kelly held the Bible during his swearing in.  


Officer Michael R. Allen

Officer Michael R. Allen, 26, is a Howell native and attended both Brookdale Community College and Rutgers University, earning his BA in Business. A graduate of the Monmouth County Police Academy, Officer Allen served as a New Jersey Department of Corrections Officer for a year and a Monmouth County Sheriff’s Officer for three months prior to being hired by the MTPD. His mother Linda held the Bible during his swearing in while his father James stood alongside him.

 

Officer Daniel Flannigan

Officer Daniel Flannigan, 27, was born and raised in the North Middletown section of Middletown and currently lives in Highlands. After earning his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Brookdale Community College, Officer Flannigan graduated from the Monmouth County Police Academy in 2016 and worked as a Patrolman in Highlands and as a Dispatcher and Special Officer in Middletown and Long Branch. At his swearing in Officer Flannigan was joined by his father, retired MTPD Corporal Skip Flannigan, and his mother Anna Marie who held the Bible.


Officer Matthew Geiss

Officer Matthew Geiss, 31, was born in Oceanside, New York and raised in Middletown. After receiving his BA in Justice Studies from Montclair State University, Officer Geiss attended the City of New York Police Academy and worked for the NYPD for 5 years before returning home to serve his community as a Patrolman. He is currently attending the Monmouth County Police Academy. He lives in Middletown with his wife Lisa and two dogs, Dudley and Cookie. Lisa held the Bible during his ceremonial swearing in. 


Officer Michael A. Masiello 

Officer Michael A. Masiello, 29, was born in New York and raised in the Lincroft section of Middletown. Officer Masiello earned his BS in Business from Monmouth University. He graduated the Ocean County Police Academy in 2015 and worked as a Special II Officer in Point Pleasant Beach and Tinton Falls PD. Officer Masiello was employed by Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office before being hired by the MTPD. His mother Theresa held the Bible during his swearing in.
