MIDDLETOWN, NJ – (August 2, 2019) –Middletown Recreation today announced its August Mayor’s Wellness Campaign (MWC) community events and that registration is now open for our inaugural Mayor’s 5K Challenge on Saturday, October 19th at Poricy Park.
August’s MWC events that are free to residents include:
WELLNESS SEMINAR
“Get Moving: Learning Before Doing”
Thursday, August 8th from 6:30-7:30 PM
Middletown Township Public Library (55 New Monmouth Road)
Dr. Marc Rubenstein of Applied Prevention & Health Promotion Therapies will teach movement strategies for any level to progress from getting off the couch to running a mile and beyond. Mayor Tony Perry will be discussing why Middletown is participating in this campaign and the importance of getting our residents moving.

Beach Volleyball
Saturday, August 17th at 9:00 AM
Ideal Beach (corner of Bayside Parkway and Ocean Avenue in North Middletown)
Come on out for a fun game of beach volleyball! Try and set for the Mayor or work on your best spike over the net! This activity is geared for teens and adults. Younger children are welcome and other beach activities will be available nearby for them to play while mom and dad get a workout in.
Registration is now open for Middletown’s inaugural Mayor’s 5K Challenge and 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, October 19th at Poricy Park (345 Oak Hill Road)!

Join us for our Mayor's 5K Challenge with all proceeds to benefit Middletown First Responders. The race route meanders through Poricy Park, one of the hidden gems of Middletown. The trail consists of wide grass paths as well as some sections of single track. Poricy Park is not flat - beware of the hills! Check back soon for a copy of the race map. All participants will receive a long sleeve shirt (while supplies last). Racers in both the 1mi Fun Run and 5K Race will additionally receive a bib with timing chip and medal.

About the Mayors Wellness Campaign
The Mayors Wellness Campaign (MWC) is a statewide community health initiative that provides evidence-based tools and strategies for mayors and community leaders to help their residents achieve healthier lifestyles and improve overall health and wellness in their communities.
Middletown Recreation is offering one wellness seminar and physical activity per month. All lectures are held on the second Thursday of the month through October from 6:30-7:30 PM. The location varies by activity. Lectures are generally geared for adults, but children are welcome to attend all. Activities are held on the third Saturday of the month beginning at 9:00 AM. Activities are geared towards families of all ages and abilities.
