For Immediate Release – February 8, 2018

MIDDLETOWN, N.J. – Middletown Township and New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) today announced a pilot program to provide free energy audits to income-eligible residents. The program is designed to help qualified NJNG customers in Middletown identify energy-efficiency opportunities to help lower their energy bills.

Under this no-obligation program, a certified auditor with The SAVEGREEN PROJECT® at NJNG, will conduct an in-depth home energy audit and provide a detailed report, complete with energy-saving recommendations. In addition, participants will receive information about available rebates and incentives to help make energy-efficiency upgrades more affordable. To qualify, Middletown residents must have an annual household income between 225 percent and 400 percent of the federal poverty level. For example, this translates to an annual household income between $55,350 and $98,400 for a family of four.

“Middletown is excited to embrace this environmental initiative that will not only help our residents lower their energy bills, but also ensure that Middletown is sustainable in the future,” said Mayor Stephanie C. Murray.

Households that exceed income limits of the pilot program can sign up for a $250 energy audit and get a free ecobee4 Smart Thermostat. The ecobee4 with built-in Amazon Alexa Voice Service, valued at $249, can help residents save up to 23 percent on their home heating costs and is compatible with many HVAC systems. The thermostat promotion is not available to those receiving a free energy audit.

“Middletown continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability and we look forward to helping them make energy-efficient homes the standard in their community,” said Anne-Marie Peracchio, director of conservation and clean energy at New Jersey Natural Gas.

For the past seven years, Middletown Township has met the rigorous requirements to achieve certification as a Sustainable Jersey® municipality. Home to more than 67,000 residents, it is the largest municipality in Monmouth County.

Since its inception in 2009, SAVEGREEN has helped nearly 50,000 customers invest in energy-efficiency upgrades to save money, reduce their environmental impact and improve the comfort and value of their homes and businesses.
