Treatment Notice


Initial application of “Clearcast” was scheduled for Tuesday, August 16th (rain date was Wednesday, August 17th)

Second application of “Clearcast” scheduled for Tuesday, September 13th (rain date is Wednesday, September 14th)

The Township of Middletown, NJ is continuing its Shadow Lake Management Program in 2022, focusing on herbicide applications to control Water Chestnut (Trapa natans), to improve water quality as well as the recreational and aesthetic value of the lake. The program is carried out by SŌLitude Lake Management, an aquatic management firm registered with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (No. 99877A). NJDEP Aquatic Pesticide permit applications are being submitted for approval of the herbicide application of Clearcast (imazamox) EPA 241-437-67690.

The first Clearcast application was scheduled for Tuesday, August 16th (rain date is Wednesday, August 17th) and the second is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13th (rain date is Wednesday, September 14th). Treatments will proceed only after the issuance of NJDEP permits, if sufficient aquatic vegetation is present to warrant treatment, and favorable weather conditions exist.

Product labels are on the SŌLitude Lake Management website (www.solitudelakemanagement.com/product-regulation-labels). The lake shore will be posted at the time of treatment indicating the applicable water use restrictions.

Residents and property owners bordering the lake and visitors to Shadow Lake will be required to follow the posted drinking water and water use restrictions as indicated above, and should make necessary arrangements during the restriction period.

Information regarding the treatment schedule, rain dates, status, and other information will be posted on the Middletown Township website at www.middletownnj.org.
