MIDDLETOWN, NJ – Poricy Park Conservancy located in Middletown, NJ, announces community programs for July and August 2012, where there’s something for everyone!

Hot Topics In History!
Join us for some stimulating conversation and relaxing tea! July – “A Snake In The Garden” View with us this new and amazing video showing life in Colonial Courage, New Hampshire! August – Two Colonial Homes! Mt. Vernon and the Murray Farmhouse were both built in the 18th century by two ambitious men. We will compare photos of the two dwellings to see the differences and similarities. Join us! (We will be meeting in our 1770 NJ State Historic Murray Farmhouse parlor!) Special guests from the reenacting group ‘Past Muster’ as well as others will participate! Not necessary to commit to all sessions. - Must pre-register at least one week prior to each session.

Community Fossil Hunt!
Come and wander in the cool shade covering Poricy Brook while looking for fossils!  Our experienced guide will prepare you for your journey back in time 65 million years! We will provide the trowels & sifters and help you identify your treasures! Please dress for the weather and wear rubber boots or old sneakers. Your feet WILL get wet! Note: Sandals and slip-on footwear prohibited. Remember to bring a small bag to hold your five best finds! Registration is needed so we will have enough supplies!!! Appropriate for adults and children (children must be accompanied & supervised by an adult). Meet at the Nature Center

Murray Farmhouse Open House!
Join us for our annual open house! Enjoy a personal tour of this unique New Jersey State Historic site with its amazing construction dating back to Colonial times – 1770! Discover the unique replica artifacts that have been replaced by today’s modern conveniences. Appropriate for all ages (children must be supervised by their adult). Meet at the Murray Farmhouse

Frog Fest!
Frogs are cool!!!! They provide a source of enjoyment and cultural fascination as well as being an integral part of habitats around the world. Join us as we celebrate frogs with amphibian activity stations. Appropriate for frog lovers of all ages! Children must be supervised by their adult. This is a great family activity!! Please register in advance!  Meet at the Murray Pond

Fee: $5 members; $7 non-members; $20 Special Family Rate (2 adults, 3 children)

Murray Barn Open House!
Come see the barn that Joseph Murray built. View our original 18th century timbers and other unusual colonial artifact replicas including the unusual root cellar. Our experienced interpreter will be glad to share the story! Appropriate for all ages (children must be supervised by their adult)! Meet at the Murray Barn!

The Poricy Park Conservancy strives to provide quality programs at a reasonable cost to visitors.  Your generous contributions assist the Conservancy in sustaining operations. Unless otherwise noted, recommended program donations are $5 for members and $7 for non-members; maximum per family $20 members and $25 non-members.

Pre-Registration is requested for all programs unless noted otherwise, allowing staff to plan supplies and instructor coverage accordingly.  Although walk-in registration the day of program is available with some programs, a program will be cancelled if the pre-registration minimums are not met.

PROGRAMS ARE HELD RAIN OR SHINE SO PLEASE DRESS ACCORDINGLY.

 Poricy Park Conservancy is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organization located in Middletown Township. With exceptional ecological resources, the 250 acre historical and nature site makes it one of the largest nature preserves in Monmouth County. The Park offers recreational activities such as magnificent wooded hiking trails, bird watching, pristine pond settings, fishing, and a one-of-a-kind 70 million year-old Cretaceous fossil bed.
