EMS Respond to Hwy 36 & Thompson Ave Accident
On Sunday, October 16. EMS was dispatched at 12:45 PM to the intersection of Highway 36 & Thompson Avenue in the North Middletown section of Middletown for a motor vehicle accident. Two motorcycles were stopped at the red traffic light on Highway 36 westbound when they were rear-ended by another westbound car. The two motorcycle operators were seriously injured; one was driven by ground to Jersey Shore University Medical Center’s Trauma unit, the other was transported by NorthStar medivac helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center’s trauma unit. The driver of the car was transported to Bayshore Community Hospital with minor injuries. A second car was also involved, but there were no injuries with the occupants of that vehicle. The crash resulted in Westbound 36 being closed for a period of time while the accident was cleared, resulting in traffic being forced down to one lane and then into the jughandle for Thompson Avenue.
Responding units were Middletown Township First Aid & Rescue Squad, Leonardo First Aid & Rescue Squad, MONOC paramedics, New Jersey State Police NorthStar medivac, East Keansburg Fire Company, Port Monmouth Fire Company, and the Middletown Township Police.
The accident is being investigated by Middletown Police.
