Middletown Police Chief Receives Service Award

MIDDLETOWN – Police Chief Robert Oches has a new award to add to his office wall. He is the proud recipient of the 2010 FBI National Academy Associates Meritorious Service award for his work on the FBI Youth Leadership Program.

The Mayor and Township Committee congratulated Chief Oches on receipt of the award at the April meeting. “I’m proud that the membership of the FBI National Academy Associates shares my assertion that Chief Oches is an outstanding leader worthy of recognition. Middletown is privileged to have a person of his caliber serving as Chief of our Police Department,” said Mayor Gerard P. Scharfenberger.

The FBI National Academy Associates is an organization comprised of law enforcement professionals who are graduates of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. Chief Oches, who attended the 182nd session of the National Academy, has been the chairperson of the New Jersey Chapter’s program for the last decade.

The Youth Leadership Program offers incoming high school sophomores and juniors who have demonstrated above average academic standards and good citizenship the opportunity to participate in an 8-day program of leadership development at the FBI Academy Facility in Quantico Virginia. The program offered in partnership with the FBI and individual participants are selected and sponsored by various state chapters of the FBINAA. The group pays for transportation and student sponsorship fees. Counselors and instructional staff consist of National Academy graduates who are members of the FBINAA and select FBI special Agent personnel. The program is open to males and females.
