The name "Public Works" says it all. The Middletown Township Department of Public Works is a multi-faceted department, responsible for much of the "behind-the-scenes" aspects of maintaining Middletown. This department directly contributes to making it one of the best places to live.

The Department of Public Works overall responsibilities include:
- Road maintenance & repair,
- Garbage collection,
- Recycling,
- Leaf & brush pick-ups,
- Road opening permits for repair or upgrade of sewerage, gas, or water lines
- Maintenance & installation of traffic signs, markers, and lines
- Municipal property & automobile maintenance, and
- Snow removal
