Support The Troops
Middletown is dedicated to supporting the brave men and women who serve in the United States military.
Adopt a Troop
The township adopts local soldiers and their units during deployments overseas. The Public Information Office organizes occasional collections of supplies from residents, local organizations and businesses. Supplies are readied for shipping by Middletown Emergency Management volunteers. Parks and Recreation provides a central storage location and local materials transport. Shipping costs are donated by Middletown VFW 2179.
Approximately three tons of supplies generously donated by local businesses and families have been shipped to soldiers serving in the Middle East since 2007. The township adopted paratroopers from Charlie Co., 1BSTB, 82nd Airborne Division during their 2007-2008 deployment to Iraq, Army Sgt. Eric McCoy, Delta Company, 404th Civil Affairs Battalion during his 2008-2009 deployment to Iraq and Marine Corps Captain Nicholas Abbate and his infantry unit in 2010 during a deployment to Afghanistan. The program was established by Mayor Gerry Scharfenberger in 2007.
Hometown Heroes
Middletown Township hosts a tribute wall at Town Hall to honor Middletown soldiers actively serving in the military. Soldiers and their loved ones are invited to send a brief biography and pictures to Town hall. The wall was established in 2008 by Mayor Pamela M Brightbill.
