Detective Bureau

The Middletown Twp. Police Department Detective Bureau's main responsibility is to conduct latent or follow up investigations of serious incidents that occur within the Township with the goal of identifying actors responsible for crimes and offenses, enforcing the laws of the State of New Jersey and assisting the State with the prosecution of the persons responsible.

A Detective Lieutenant is the Commanding Officer of the Bureau and a Detective Sergeant is responsible for the supervision of personnel assigned to the Bureau. The Bureau is composed of several sections and sub-components which include but are not limited to:

All initial reports are reviewed by the Detective Division Commander or Supervisor and assigned to a detective for follow up investigation based on several solvability factors with priority given to more serious offenses. All detectives and the supervisors are chosen from the ranks of the Patrol Division. Once assigned to the Detective Bureau each detective receives continuing training in different areas of specialization to keep abreast of new techniques, procedures and technology. Detectives are typically available Monday through Friday from 7:00AM to 5:00PM. At all other times detectives are called in to respond as needed.
