Deputy Chief Joseph F. Braun

Deputy Chief Joseph F. Braun has been a police officer since 1980 when he began his career with the Atlantic Highlands Police Department. He was hired by the Middletown Township Police Department in 1983 as a Patrolman. In 1986 he was assigned to the Detective Bureau as a general case detective and later as a narcotic investigator. In 1990 he was promoted to Sergeant and then served as a road supervisor in the Patrol Bureau. In 1992 he was again assigned to the Detective Bureau as a Detective Sergeant and he served as the commander of the Bayshore Narcotic Strike Force. His responsibilities with the Strike Force were to supervise undercover investigations into the illegal narcotics trade in the Bayshore area of Monmouth County. 1994 saw him return to the department and he again served in the Patrol Bureau as a road supervisor. In 1995 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned to the position of Executive Officer in the Detective Bureau. In 1997 he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief of Police where he now leads the Patrol and Traffic Bureaus.

Deputy Chief Braun is a graduate of Middletown Township High School, Brookdale Community College, Jersey City State College and the Monmouth County Police Academy. He has attended numerous police related training schools including the Northwestern University Traffic Institute School of Police Staff and Command and the Northwestern University Executive Management Program.

He has received numerous recognitions including the Merit Award from the New Jersey Police Training Commission, a Commendation Award from the International Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association, a Distinguished Service Award and the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award from American Legion Post #338. The Middletown Township Policemen’s Benevolent Association has awarded him the Combat Cross, Life Saving Award, three Distinguished Service Awards, seven Medals of Merit and the Supervisor of the Year Award.

Deputy Chief Braun is a life member of the New Jersey Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association and served as their President in 2006-2007. The Deputy Chief is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the International Police Association and the International German-American Police Association. He is a life member of the Lincroft First Aid and Rescue Squad, the Middletown Township Fire Department and the Lincroft Fire Company.

Deputy Chief Braun is married and lives in the township with his wife and children. He enjoy fishing, hiking and traveling with his family.
