Life Saving Awards

The Middletown Township Committee presents special Certifcates of Recognition called Life Saving Awards to Middletown residents and emergency responders for bravery and heroism.

April 2008
Firefighter, Bill Kacen, of Community Fire Company received a Life Saving Award April 21 from the Middletown Township Committee for his heroic rescue of a woman from her burning home on March 27. Kacen, a probationary firefighter, had been working on the Belford section of town when the call came. Kacen, who is also a member of Leonardo First Aid, went directly to the fire in the Leonardo section of Middletown. When he learned there was still someone in the house, he ran in without a protective suit or breathing apparatus.

The Middletown Township Committee presented life saving awards to three firefighters and one police officer tonight for their heroic rescue of a bedridden woman from a house fire in the Port Monmouth section of Middletown. They are Second Assistant Chief Michael Chenoweth, Firefighters Ed “Buddy” Skelly of Port Monmouth Fire Company and Robert Betz of Community Fire Company and Patrolman Steve Keller
