Outstanding Employees

Certificates of Recognitions are given to Middletown's outstanding employees by the Mayor and Middletown Township Committee as part of the Employee of the Month program. Proclamations are often isssued to recongize retiring employees for their years of services. Below is a sampling of some of our employees and their noteworthy accomplishments.

Middletown PBA Softball Team
For the first time in more than 30 years, the Middletown PBA Softball Team has won the Jersey Shore Police Softball C Division Championship. The victory was marked by the Township Committee at the October 2009.

Certificates of recognition were presented to team members by the governing body. The members of the team are: Patrolman Michael Allen ,Patrolman Anthony Bumbico, Patrolman Gregory Buhowski, Corporal Bernie Chenoweth, Patrolman Michael Chenoweth, Patrolman Donald Coates, Patrolman Antonio Ciccone, Patrolman Adam Colfer, Detective Sgt. Richard Deickmann Jr, Patrolman Brian McGrogan, Patrolman Albert Scott, Sergeant Ernie Volkland, Corporal Douglas Wiatrak, and Patrolman John Werner.

August 2009 - Lawrence M Werger Day
After 12 years on the job, Public Works Director Lawrence M. Werger is retiring from a noteworthy career in public service. The Township Committee officially thanked him for his service at the August 2009 meeting and declared October 1st, his official retirement date, as Lawrence M. Werger Day to commemorate the occasion.

June 2009 - Maggie OBrien, Arts Center Director
The Monmouth County Arts Council has named Middletown Arts Center Director Maggie O’Brien as a 2009 Community Champion for her support of diverse art education programming and an ongoing commitment to the Arts. O’Brien, a Middletown resident, first got involved with the township’s push to expand the availability of cultural and arts programming in 2001 as a volunteer serving on the then-newly formed Arts Advisory Committee. O’Brien transitioned seamlessly from active volunteer to dedicated employee in 2004.

May 2009 - Police Officer Patricia Colengelo
Police Officer Patricia Colengelo was named Police Officer of the Year by American Legion 338.

March 2009 - Wendy Latona, Clerk’s Office
Latona was named Employee of the Month was named for her stellar customer service skills.

January 2009 - Kenneth Winters, Public Works
Winters, a longtime employee, was named Employee of the Month recently for saving King’s life. Winters successfully administered the Heimlich maneuver after finding King choking on a piece of apple.

2007-2008 Employee of the Year
Howard Dailey, Motor Pool Supervisor

Howard Dailey who serves as the Motor Pool Supervisor for the Department of Public Works, was honored by the Township Committee for being named the 2007-2008 Middletown Employee of the Year. Dailey, a 34 year employee, supervises 9 mechanics that are collectively responsible for maintaining the township's 360 motorized vehicles. Mr. Dailey has taken responsibility for purchasing the division's $300,000 worth of parts ranging from spark plugs to heavy equipment tires, and has been heavily involved in the preparation and review of capital vehicle specifications. He also oversees and inspects the township's fueling station to ensure it remains in compliance with DEP regulations.

May 2008 - Loretta Dossie Day
Loretta Dossie, Deputy Munciiapl Court Administrator, retired after 25 years of dedicated servies to the residents of Middletown Township. She was honored for her hard work, dedication and knowledge of court policy and procedures.

May 2008 - Kathleen Ligon, Middletown Library
Kathleen Ligon, LIbrarian and Coordinator of Adult Programming, was named Employee of the Month for May 2008 her oustanding efforts to offer oustanding adult programming. She has almost single-handedly raised the bar for cultural excellence at the library and made an important contribution to the quality of life in Middletown Township, according to Library Director Susan O'Neal.

April 2008 - Rosemary Miear Day
Rosemary Minear, Planning Board Secretary, retired from after 20 years of dedicated service to the residents of Middletown Township. She was honored for years of hard word and dedication with a special presentation at the April meeting.

March 2008
Stefanie Cooper, Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs
Stefanie Cooper was named Employee of the Month for March 2008 for the outstanding job she has done serving as Acting Special Events Coordinator. She has been an exceptional replacment, making sure all our planned activities have continued moving forward, and added and has revised and added a few prorgram. Stefanie began to work for Middletown in 1982 as a part-time employee and was hired as Assistant Director of the Tonya Keller Bayshore Receation Center since 2005.

January 2008
Theresa Santiago, Emergency Mgmt.

Theresa Santiago who has worked for the Office of Emergency Management for four years was named Middletown's Employee of the Month for January 2008 for her outstanding work on Middletown's Adopt A Unit Program. A large measure of credit for Emergency Management's sucessful participation in this program is a result of her enthusiasm, her dedication and careful planning, according to OEM Coordinator Charles W. Rogers.
