Local Candidate Petitions

The Township Clerk certifies the Democratic and Republican Candidates Nominating Petitions for the June Primary Election. The Petition filing deadline is 51 days prior to the Primary Election. Upon certifying these petitions to the Monmouth County Clerk of Elections the Candidates are placed on the ballot for the Primary. The Petitions are available in the Township Clerks Office for review during normal business hours.

NOMINATING PETITIONS
[N.J.S.A. 19:13-1, 19:13-3, 19:23.5 et seq.]

  1. Nominating Petitions must be filed in the office of the Municipal Clerk by 4:00 p.m. on the 57th day prior to the Primary Election.
  2. Who submits Petitions to Municipal Clerk.
    a. Candidates for Municipal Office.
    b.Candidates for Municipal Committee (County Committee).


INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE FOR MUNICIPAL OFFICE
[N.J.S.A. 19:13-5]

  1. Name does not appear on Primary Ballot.
  2. Names appear on the General Election Ballot in November.
  3. Filing Petition: Petition must be filed with the County Clerk by 4:00 p.m. on Primary Election Day.
  4. Signatures required: Two percent (2%) of the total votes cast by all voters at the last preceding general election at which a member of the General Assembly was elected, but no more than one hundred (100).
  5. 5. Slogan may not exceed three (3) words and may not contain reference to a political party.
