The Building Department provides for cooperative inspection and enforcement of all Construction Codes relating to the construction, maintenance, use and occupancy of buildings and structures.
Certificate of Occupancy
Housing - Before an owner/tenant can occupy or change title of a house or apartment it must meet certain requirements.
Commercial Certificate of Occupancy - All commercial occupancies require approval to operate. This approval is granted only after a fee has been paid and all inspections satisfied.
Permits - UCC (Uniform Construction Code)
There are four departments (Building, Plumbing, Fire and Electric) that issue permits necessary for review, inspection, and approval including Commercial CO's.
Before any construction can begin, the contractor must meet township requirements and obtain appropriate permits. (Building permits, plumbing, fire, and electrical permits)
A review of project plans is necessary to insure that they conform with the current township ordinances and meet all safety requirements of the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code, which governs plumbing, electric, fire and building construction standards.
The following projects require a building permit:
alterations
renovations
new home
deck
above or in ground pool or hot tub
shed
lawn sprinkler system
roof replacement
siding
fence
any plumbing installation
finished basement
garage conversion
Permits can be obtained from the Building Department located at the Johnson Gill Annex, Kings Highway. Call (732) 615-2106 for more information.
