Library Board
The choice to have a library was made by the residents of Middletown in 1920. The Township Committee appointed a Library Board and they appointed a librarian. One of the villages of Middletown was to be chosen as headquarters for the library and branch libraries were started at schools and post offices and in other places. Middletown Township has the distinction of having the first library on wheels in the State.

Today the New Monmouth Library is our main library. There are three other branches located in the Bayshore, Lincroft and Navesink sections of Middletown. It is not part of the Monmouth County Library system. The Middletown Township Public Library exists for the purpose of providing materials that are necessary for the education and entertainment of the people of Middletown Township. The library works to increase the quality of its services and provide materials needed to accomplish this aim. Its most recent accomplishment is the renovation of the main branch.

The Library Board consists of seven members. The term of office is five years.. Meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month at the Main Library, 55 New Monmouth Road. Call 732-671-3700 for more information.
