Environmental Commission
The Environmental Commission, which was established in 1968, is an advisory body that focuses on the protection, development or use of natural resources including water resources, located within the territorial limits of Middletown Township.

The Environmental Commission reviews all planning and zoning board applications for any environmental concerns. They also undertake special projects funding largely by matching grants from the state Department of Environmental Protection. Projects completed by the Environmental Commission include an assessment of the feasibility and cost of a boardwalk between Swimming River in Lincroft and two township parks, a diagnostic study to find ways to improve McClees Creek; a study about the pesticides left behind by area farmers; a study of Pond to determine vital statistics including water depth, fish population and chemical health; installation of a series of kiosks that highlight Middletown's many ecosystems; a water quality study of McClees Creek; and a study that involved testing of sediments at the bottom of the Navesink River for contaminants.

The Environmental Commission is comprised of seven regular members and two alternate members. One member is a member of the Planning Board. The term of office is a three-year term. Meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month at 7p.m. in the Conference Room at Town Hall, 1 Kings Highway. Call 732-615-2014 for more information.
